Syrah Rockpile Haley Rockpile Vineyard 2009

93 points | $60 | 100 cases made | Red

Tight, firm, intense and concentrated, this is slow to unfold but does so with depth, focus and complexity, targeting mineral, dried berry, wild berry, blackberry, underbrush and cedar flavors, with ripe, chewy tannins. Drink now through 2022.—J.L.

Distinctive and loaded with personality, with wild berry and white pepper aromas and complex, slightly rustic blackberry, smoky licorice and sage flavors that finish with briary tannins. Drink now through 2017.—T.F.

Zinfandel Paso Robles Dusi Vineyard 2009

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 94 points

Even better is the 2008 Petite Sirah Eaglepoint Ranch from Mendocino. This thick, viscous-looking, opaque purple-colored wine shows awesome fruit levels, amazing extract but no hard edges. Beautiful floral notes intermixed with blueberries, blackberries, camphor and incense headline a fabulous wine to drink over the next 15+ years.

Wine Spectator  Score: 93  l  $45

Shows wonderful rich espresso, toffee and chicory notes, with chewy tannins and dark, ripe huckleberry, cassis, blackberry and licorice flavors.  A dense, sink-your-teeth-into-it Petite, with wonderful concentration, detail and length.  Drink now through 2015. 249 cases made. --M.W.

Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate - 92+ points

There is slightly more of the 2007 Petite Syrah Eaglepoint Ranch, which exhibits an inky/purple color as well as a big, thick, rich, masculine, pure style. It will be extremely long-lived.

92 Points Connoisseurs' Guide - 2007 Eaglepoint Ranch Vineyard Petite Sirah

Here is a very successful proponent of the “hard as nails” style.  Its head-turning aromatic array of roasted meats and game, leather, charry oak and black pepper leads to an equally head turning dose of tough tannis on the palate, yet here again, the wine is deep and complex in its delivery of highly concentrated blackberry fruit tied to notes of mocha, espresso, pepper and black soils.  It is textbook tight in astringency but is far more than “by the book” in depth, and it promises to age well for six to ten years for starters. $45.00
