2007 Musci Vineyard Syrah

"This hillside vineyard of 1 acre is situated in the heart of Alexander Valley, coastal fog is blocked keeping the appellation a bit warmer than some of its Sonoma County neighbors. Gentle coastal breezes manage to find their way through crevasses and alluvial soil rich in minerals from ancient river deposits creates the perfect equation to derive fruit forward wines with underlying complexity. A rich and deeply concentrated wine with ripe, exotic dark berry fruit, with hints of tarragon, cinnamon and mineral flavors that turns supple."  - Jeff Cohn

Tasting Notes

Elegance best describes this wine, gracefully showing off the softer side of Syrah. Rich in both aromatics and texture. Layered and incredibly long on the palate. A wine to contemplate, but also to enjoy in the moment.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 92 points

The 2007 Syrah Musci Vineyard (49 cases) is impressive, but again, it will be impossible to find.

91 Points Connoisseurs' Guide - 2007 Musci Vineyard Syrah - Alexander Valley

Deep, downright opulent and simply oozing with sweet berries, this outhfilling effort tempers its unabashed ripeness with lots of juicy, well-extracted fruit and a full dose of very rich oak.  Its initial impressions of plushness are a bit misleading in that they might tempt early drinking, but the wine picks up an edge of slightly abrasive tannins later on.  Its flamboyance aside, this is still a very young wine that will need at least a half-decade of patience before showing its best.
