Seduction is the first thing I think of when I taste this wine. This is a wine that has gone through many experimental changes over the years. Always Roussanne and Marsanne. These are two of my favorite white wines
This is my first Rockpile Zinfandel, since my days at Rosenblum Cellars, and yes it is great to be back home! We only made 112 cases of this wine and in my opinion it is one of the best Rockpile Zins that I have had the chance to make. Big, bold, ripe.
This wine is known as juicy Dusi for a reason. I love Paso robles Zin. It's like you are able to put sunshine in a bottle and taste it in the wine any time. This is the perfect wine for those who love the the explosiveness of wild spicy, brambly head trained Zin.
Big and burly, with ripe blueberry and licorice aromas, revealing a dense backbone of tannins and acidity supporting the concentrated boysenberry, mineral and white pepper flavors. Hands off for now. Best from 2015 through 2020. 175 cases made.—T.F.
Intense and potent, offering blueberry and dark berry fruit, with a supple pose that softens some of the chewy elements. Ends with a long, pure, focused finish. Drink now through 2021. 110 cases made.—J.L.
Killer Rockpile color that is followed up with that beefy, bacon fat nose that has black cherry pie filling and minerality exploding from the glass. The palate is lush and extracted, but has plenty of back bone for the long haul, and enough sweet fruit to enjoy now, with a few hours in the decanter and a good steak.
Big framed, inky dark, dense and concentrated, supporting huge amounts of blackberry, black cherry, exotic spice, graphite and mineral infused aromatics so intense, so rich, they slowly ooze from the glass.
Black cherry and dark chocolate swirled with blueberry and wet stone in the mix. A true experience in not just Syrah, but Rockpile Syrah, from beginning to end.
Winemaker Jeff Cohn conceived the name Smoke & Mirrors to reference the freedom he experiences in putting his own stamp on the blends. “My wines are all about flaunting the impeccable terroir of our vineyard sources,” Cohn said, “But Smoke & Mirrors lets me work with several wines from several properties. There is no formula or equation for how they’ll be made each vintage, so each release will be a secret, waiting to be revealed.”
The Impostor is about my philosophy that a wine should not be about a set of rules or a specific design. It should be able to go down any path it wants. As much as I love the flavor profiles of individual grape varieties and single vineyard designated wines, I have a zeal to work with blends. Taking different varieties and exploring their deepest, darkest secrets is my passion. I find that in blending them they all have a different story to tell.
This wine has a beautiful purple/black color with aromatics of black cherry and blackberry, with subtle hints of roasted earth. The palate is lush and in a word decadent, loaded not only with fruit, but a great mineral backbone that will keep this wine a live and fresh for years to come
This intense and expressive red exhibits a range of dark berry, spice, cedar, espresso and black licorice flavors. Maintains its focus and glides along on the finish, working through chewy tannins. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2022. 100 cases made. –JL
The aromatics of raspberry confiture from the South of France, plums and the ripest strawberries all whipped together in a light meringue. On the palate this wine stays in the same realm as its aromatics, but lends itself to a spicy cinnamon intertwined with raspberry and black cherry jam with just a hint of oak roasted coffee bouncing off the sweet minerality only attained from a rocky hillside vineyard.
