2007 Sweetwater Springs Vineyard Zinfandel

"Around the corner from the Rochioli’s illustrious West Block Vineyard, lies a small but sublime vineyard called Sweetwater Springs which features Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. We are excited to offer you our first release of this stellar section from what appears to be a phenomenal vintage! Dueling cool fogs from both the Petaluma wind gap and the mouth of the Russian River allow for extended hang time, and grapes that flirt with the apex of ripeness. Vineyard manager Ulises Valdez joked “You better pick the grapes before the birds finish them.”  We waited an additional week so that you could open a bottle and taste bold & rich Zinfandel dressed to the nines."  - Jeff Cohn

Tasting Notes

Briery aromas of wild raspberry and blueberry with a subtle hint of crème brulée escape with the slightest of swirl. Succulent flavors of black cherry, anisette, vanilla & spice flow across the palate, pushing ripeness to the edge but with enough acidity to give vibrancy to its hedonistic style. Seductively alluring, this is Russian River Valley Zinfandel at its finest.

Varietals: 95.5% Zinfandel, 4.5% Petite Sirah

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 93 points

In a year that was challenging for many Zinfandel producers, the 2008 Zinfandel Sweetwater Springs exhibits abundant peppery, briery, loamy soil, underbrush and fruitcake characteristics. Full-bodied, rich and soft with decent acidity, it should be drunk over the next 3-4 years.

Wine Spectator Score: 92 | $35

The 2007 Zinfandel Sweetwater Springs Vineyard (88 cases produced) is a winner, but obviously it is nearly impossible to find.
