There are literally hundreds – if not thousands – of testosterone boosters on the market today.
All of these supplements claim to offer you something unique. They throw around buzzwords like crazy: “pharmaceutical-grade”, “ultra potent”, “instant results” – you’ve seen this all before.
If you’re in the market for a testosterone booster, then it can be hard to figure out which stacks are good and which aren’t so good.
What makes a genuinely good testosterone booster?
How do you know when a testosterone supplement is right for your specific needs?
Which is the best testosterone booster on the market right now?
In the complete buying guide below, I will answer these three questions in as much detail as I can. I’ll tell you exactly what to look for in a testosterone booster. I’ll then tell you what I believe to be the best 5 testosterone boosters on the market right now.
If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section at the end!
What Makes A Great Testosterone Booster?
As I said above, there are probably thousands of testosterone boosters on the market today.
They all claim to have unique benefits, and they each claim to be the “most potent” product around. But they can’t all be telling the truth.
In reality, the vast majority of testosterone boosters on sale today are a waste of money.
They either contain unproven, ineffective ingredients, or they don’t say how much of each ingredient you get per serving.
A small number, however, do offer good value for money.
They combine powerful, scientifically-proven testosterone boosters with specially formulated vitamin and mineral stacks.
The best testosterone boosters all show you exactly how much of each ingredient you get per serving, right there on the label.
Transparency is the most important thing a supplement can offer me – if a manufacturer asks me to take their word for it, I know it’s a scam!
I’ll now run through the main things that a modern, high quality testosterone booster needs to deliver. If a stack doesn’t give you these things, you know you’re looking at a substandard product.
Proven Testosterone Boosters
This one shouldn’t come as a surprise to you, but you wouldn’t believe how many testosterone boosters I see that don’t actually contain any scientifically-proven testosterone boosting agents!
A good testosterone booster needs to provide substances which have been shown in clinical trials to positively affect testosterone levels in humans.
The best testosterone booster needs to combine several different natural substances which promote higher free serum testosterone levels in different ways.
For example, a great testosterone booster should combine ingredients which promote Luteinizing Hormone release, reduce SHBG activity, and directly stimulate testosterone production in the testes.
By increasing testosterone via several different pathways at once, you’re bound to get the results you’re looking for.
In my opinion, the best testosterone boosters will combine some or all of the following proven testosterone-promoting agents:
- Mucuna Pruriens
- D-Aspartic Acid
- Korean Ginseng
- Nettle Root Extract
There are other substances which have been show to directly increase testosterone production, and to preserve testosterone availability in the blood.
But if a stack doesn’t contain a couple of these ingredients, then I don’t think it’s worth trying. These are staple ingredients in modern, high quality testosterone boosters.
Another important component which you need to look for in a top-quality testosterone booster is something to control cortisol.
There are a number of natural herbs and minerals which suppress cortisol levels in humans.
Cortisol is the body’s stress hormone. It is also an antagonist of testosterone – cortisol and testosterone do not coexist!
Increased cortisol levels – whether it’s from over-training or having a high-stress job – will steadily deplete your free serum testosterone levels.
Using supplements to suppress cortisol is therefore a safe, effective, reliable way to maximize testosterone availability.
The following herbs are superb natural cortisol suppressors (and by extension good testosterone boosters):
- Rhodiola rosea
Adding these substances to a testosterone booster will dramatically reduce stress levels, suppress cortisol, and create an environment in which your testosterone levels can return to normal.
In my experience, only the best testosterone boosters actually provide some kind of cortisol controlling agent.
This one is a deal-breaker for me. If a testosterone booster doesn’t contain something to reduce aromatase activity, then I’m not going to use it.
Think about it like this – imagine your testosterone booster works, but all of the excess testosterone you now have just gets turned into estrogen!
This is something bodybuilders have grappled with for decades.
As many of you will know, the guys of the Golden Age struggled with water retention, gynecomastia, and fat gain when using compounds like Dianabol.
That’s because Dianabol increases both testosterone and estrogen.
Today, professional bodybuilders use aromatase inhibitors to mitigate the effects of having absurdly high testosterone levels (which would otherwise be converted to estrogen).
This is why a good testosterone booster needs some kind of natural aromatase inhibitor.
My favorite natural aromatase inhibitors are:
Of these, I’d say the most effective is I3C. It doesn’t cause side effects, and it has the strongest scientific backing in my opinion.
I’d expect the best testosterone boosters to provide a large dose of at least one of these compounds.
Test-Boosting Vitamins & Minerals
Every single testosterone booster on the market today – even the cheap, low quality ones – should provide good doses of vitamins and minerals known to support healthy test levels.
Testosterone production relies on numerous different vitamins and minerals. These act as cofactors for the production of testosterone.
Without sufficient levels of certain vitamins or minerals, you simply can’t make enough testosterone.
Here are the most important vitamins and minerals for testosterone production:
- Vitamin D3
- Vitamin B6
- Vitamin B5
Of these, the most important are the Zinc, Boron and Vitamin D3.
The magnesium and B Vitamins can and should be obtained from food. They also have nowhere near the same kind of effect on testosterone availability as zinc, boron and D3.
Supporting libido is nowhere near as important as actually increasing testosterone levels in the blood.
Many supplements focus purely on treating the symptoms of low testosterone; they don’t fix the problem itself.
However, if a stack does effectively raise testosterone levels, then some added libido support is definitely very welcome!
Here are some of the most reliable natural libido boosters in existence:
- Korean Ginseng
- Maca Root
I don’t think libido support s necessary for a great testosterone booster.
However, the best testosterone boosters will effective increase testosterone levels in the blood and support a healthy sex drive.
